Well-Watered

I don't know about you but our lawn is looking uglier by the day. Big patches are starting to dry up, the grass is hardening, and everything is turning brown. While it doesn't look good, it is a sign that we're following the county's recent watering restrictions :). I mean how lush can your lawn look when only watered twice a week, especially now that temperatures are in the 90s. And while it is sad to see our grass slowly withering, for the most part, our trees have remained green (obviously their roots are deeper).

We all go through seasons of drought. Difficult times that threaten to dry us up and harden our hearts. This is why we need deep roots to get to that nourishing groundwater. Rooting ourselves in Christ - by spending time in prayer and God's Word, remaining open to the Holy Spirit, keeping in fellowship with believers, and having a servant's heart - is what sustains us even when the environment around us is not ideal or even harsh. There are a lot of harsh things going on in the world these days that can make us wilt and wither: the ongoing shootings in the country, the war and upheaval in Ukraine, COVID concerns, social and racial tensions, economic struggles, etc. With all of that around us, we must find our trust and confidence in the Lord.

Jeremiah 17:7-8 says “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought  and never fails to bear fruit.” In all seasons of life but especially in times like these, Christ is that groundwater that nourishes our soul and keeps us strong. Do not neglect Him. Deepen your roots in Him. Walk in His grace and truth. Then even when heat and drought come, you will continue to be well-watered and bear fruit for the Lord.

God bless,

Pastor Darren
