A Reminder That God Is in Charge
On Sunday, June 5th, we celebrated Pentecost Sunday. Pastor Darren had invited a few of us to brainstorm on how we could make the day special. We wanted to keep our focus on the reason for the celebration which was God sending the Holy Spirit and the birth of the church. We based our table decorations on the passage Acts 2:1-4. “When the day of Pentecost came, they were gathered in one place. Suddenly a sound like a violent blowing wind came from Heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest upon them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and they began speaking in other tongues as the Holy Spirit enabled them.” This is what we wanted to celebrate - those gifts from God. It gives me great joy to be able to research and execute a plan. I feel that God is always a part of making the plan a success according to His Purpose and Will. I usually have everything prepared in advance. We prepared to set up 20 tables and I had made enough decorations but on Saturday Pastor Darren told me we were going to have a big crowd and we would need 24 tables. What was I to going to do? I could do nothing at the last minute but God had already worked out the problem for me. When I ordered the decorations, I didn’t realize that I ended up ordering 24 of each item. God does care about us and yes; He even cares about the little things that seem big to us.
Then something happened that even I was not prepared for. My back started to experience some severe muscles spasms and I could not move, stand or lay down I was in so much pain. I wanted to be able to go to church on Sunday to celebrate the Lord’s day but even though my mind and heart were willing - my body wasn’t.
God knew I needed Him to comfort me and He rallied the troops around me! My husband took good care of me. My great friends, Linda and Rosemary, took over setting up the tables, Pastor Darren, Renae, Susan and others prayed for me. What a blessing to know that God is really the one in charge. I just needed to let go and let God!
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. (2 Corinthians 1:3-4)
