Thirsty for God
In Psalm 63:1, David speaks of his intense longing for the Lord. He says "O Lord, You are my God. early will I seek You. My soul thirsts for You. My flesh longs for You in a dry and thirsty land - where there is no water." When he wrote this, David was wandering through the inhospitable Desert of Judah. He had been exiled. He was alone. He was being hunted by his enemies. The land around him was dry and desolate. His hope and strength were fleeting. How about you? Are you in a desert wilderness, emotionally or spiritually? So many people I know are going through difficult times right now. Life has caused pain, loss, and heartache. Like David in the Judean wilderness, the journey of life has taken them into parched and weary places.
Can you relate to David? Are you in a desert wilderness? If you are, I want to encourage you to come to Prayer & Worship Night Friday, June 14th, at 7pm in the sanctuary. Together, we will call on God and seek His strength and presence for our lives.
When David says his soul thirsts and his flesh longs for God, he's not talking about physical thirst or hunger. He's talking about his deep desire for the Lord's presence. He craves God so much that when he sees the dry barren desert around him, it reminds him of his thirst for God. He craves communion with Him more than he does food and water. He is a man after God's own heart. Like David, who seeks God early and longs for Him throughout the day, we should desire more and more of God's presence in our lives. Let us come before Him today.
God bless! Hope to see you on Friday, June 14th.
God bless,
Pastor Darren
