Prayer Discovers God's Agenda
Last week was an unusual week around our house. Renae and the girls left for NAOMI House the previous Saturday. Then on Sunday, I picked Colson up from the airport after a month in Rome. It was a busy week in ministry. During the middle of the week, Colson and I went to stay with my mom in OC and visit my dad and my brother separately. Then on Friday, Renae and the team returned from Arizona. Between work, ministry, and family, the whole week felt like a constant state of adjustment. As I look back, time in prayer was probably the stabilizing factor for me during the week.
Prayer, communicating with God, is such an important practice. Yet, at times, it's probably one of the hardest things to do. Our schedules get so busy, we make so many plans, we have so many things to tend to, we forego what is most important. Despite how busy it was, it was common knowledge among the disciples that they would find Jesus praying during the early morning hours. When they needed Him, they knew where to go to find Him. Mark 1:35-37 reads, "Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. Simon and his companions went to look for him, and when they found him, they exclaimed: 'Everyone is looking for you!'” Every time Jesus faced an important decision, He prayed. When He was tempted, he prayed. When He chose His disciples, He prayed. It was prayer, and hearing the Father’s voice, that set the agenda for His ministry and for His day. Jesus was pulled in many different directions, yet He always set aside time to pray in the morning.
If you feel like you're having an "unusual" week, which almost seems to be the norm these days, or feel like you're being pulled in a thousand different directions, set aside time to pray in order to hear God’s voice (above everyone else’s) and receive His guidance for the day.
God bless,
