Advent: The Candle of Love
This coming Sunday, we will light the fourth Advent candle, the candle representing Love. The Candle of Love reminds us that Christmas is the ultimate expression of God’s love—God entering the world in human form to redeem and restore humanity. It points to a love that is sacrificial, faithful, and undeserved. A love to draw us closer to God.
I recently finished a book called, The God You Need to Know” by Margaret Feinberg. This book is about experiencing the Holy Spirit’s power and presence.
At the end of one of the chapters, after discussing that the Holy Spirit still speaks to us in dreams, the author challenges you to pray before going to bed and ask the Holy Spirit to speak to us while we sleep. That night I asked the Holy Spirit to speak to me while I slept. I didn’t have any dreams that I could remember. But God gave me a song. I had the song, “I Love You Too Much”. This song is from an animated movie called, “The Book of Life”. And I just started crying. I was overcome with emotion. God was letting me know that He loves me so much and He longs for me to be closer to Him. He longs to capture my heart.
In 1 John 4:9 it says,
"In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him."
I invite you to reflect on God's love for you as we prepare our hearts for this coming Sunday's worship service. May we trust in God’s faithful love and reflect that same compassion to those around us.
Praying for God's love to "capture" your heart as we celebrate the ultimate Christmas gift, His Son, Jesus Christ.
Blessings to you through our Lord Jesus Christ,
Allyson Hara
