Ups and Downs

Dear West Covina Christian Church,

Do you ever feel like you are riding an emotional roller coaster during this pandemic?  I do.  Sometimes I get down because of all the turmoil and difficulties swirling around us constantly.  And, yet, there are many tremendous times of joy and even excitement as I see special blessings from God during this time.  Ups and downs.  But overall, I am so thankful because the “ups” remind me that the Lord is sovereign in the “downs” as well.

One of the “ups” is that starting on October 4, there will be an outside worship service in addition to the service being live streamed.  If you choose to attend the service in person, please bring your own lawn chair or blanket and arrive early (service starts at 10:30)  so that we can help everyone find a safe place to sit.  All the safety precautions and a video explaining what it will look like are on our website (www.westcovina.church).  I’m looking forward to it

Another big “up” piece of news: We have begun renovation work to the sanctuary.  This work is being paid for by two large anonymous gifts which were designated for new carpet and chairs in the sanctuary, foyer, and entryway.  While we were not initially planning on doing this work at this time, the Board of Directors and leadership of the church have the sense that the timing of these changes is from the Lord.  Why?  Three reasons come to mind immediately.  First of all, the money given was designated for these changes at this time.  Secondly, we are not currently using the sanctuary so it is easier to get the work done.  Thirdly, the renovations are needed.  The sanctuary has not had updates for a very long time.  Also, as we think about what will be helpful when we do regather inside eventually, the flexibility of chairs will be helpful for social distancing and for future ministries when the restrictions are eased.  I recognize that it is hard to envision things without seeing it, so we’ll be giving video updates from time to time.  Here’s one to introduce the project:

Lastly, when I think of the ups and downs of this pandemic time, I have regularly felt the “up” of being blessed by God as we look at His Word in our Overcomer series.  For a video devotional this week, Louisa shares how God has been encouraging her to be an Overcomer:

Please let us know how you are doing or if you have any questions about the changes taking place at WCCC.

Have a great rest of your week!
Pastor Kory
