Thank God for Snow
At the end of April, we took our girls on a drive to Mt. Baldy to play in the snow. It was obviously late in the season and most of the snow in the local mountains had already melted. Since Mt. Baldy was about to close for the season (all the other resorts had already closed), we weren't really sure how much snow we'd find there. When we got off the chairlift at the top of the mountain, we were pleasantly surprised to find a fair amount of snow on the ground. So much that we spent the day hiking and playing in the snow.
I can't tell you what a relief it was that there was snow to play in. It's not just that we had taken the time to drive up and buy pricey lift tickets, but we had promised our girls back in December that we would take them to the snow. You probably remember what this past winter was like though. Initially, the weather was mild so there wasn't much snow early on. Then in January to March, the weather got so crazy with snow and rain that highways had to be closed and travel restricted in the mountains So first there was not enough snow Then there was too much snow All of this to say we were finding it difficult to "keep our promise" to the girls Unfortunately, this isn't that unusual Sometimes we make promises to our kids, our families, and others that we're unable to keep
In 2 Corinthians 1, some of the people in Corinth are accusing the Apostle Paul of not keeping his promise to visit them They're saying that he was fickle, saying both "yes" and "no," when he made his plans Yes, these kinds of disputes are recorded even in the Scriptures In chapter 1, Paul explains that he did not have mixed feelings over coming to see them Then Paul explains that God is faithful to His promises 2 Corinthians 1:18-20 says, "But as surely as God is faithful, our message to you is not “Yes” and “No.” For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us…was not “Yes” and “No,” but in him it has always been “Yes.” For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ."
First, Paul insists that he did not say "yes" and "no" to the Corinthians Then he states that in Christ, the answer is always "yes. The promises of God find their "yes" in Christ because Jesus is the fulfillment of God's Old Testament promises God is faithful to His promises throughout the Scriptures As believers, this is something for us to always remember He is the ultimate promise-keeper Amen!
