Seeking God's Kingdom

Matthew 6:33 - NIV
"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. "

As I reflect on this verse, I find it to be very straight forward, and yet hard to live out.

#1, Seek first God’s Kingdom and His righteousness.

Seeking God’s Kingdom…Jesus talked a lot of about the Kingdom of God is near.  He was talking about himself.  He was the fulfillment of God’s kingdom coming.

Putting God first in our lives.  That is not always an easy task. And maybe I shouldn’t think of it as a “task”.  If I live my life and include God in every decision, every day, then it should be easier to seek God first. To me, it means becoming more and more like Jesus Christ. Spending time with Him in prayer and personal praise and worship. Reading my Bible. When we seek to know more about Jesus and become more Christ-like, then the second part of the verse becomes truth in our lives.

#2, “all these things will be given to you as well”

What are “these things”?  In the verses preceding this one, specifically, verse 25 it says:

Matthew 6:25 - NIV
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?

When we become more like Jesus, then we rely on God for everything. We don’t have to worry about our daily needs.  God will always provide what we need on a daily basis. We can ask God for anything, and according to His will, he answers us.  As we become more like Jesus, the things we ask for will be more in line with Gods will.

John 15:7 - ESV

7. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

When we abide in Christ, learn from Him and become more like Him, then we can ask whatever wish. But what we will wish is for, will be within God’s will because we will be abiding in Him.

I pray that all of us make time to spend with God.  It can be anytime of the day.  Spend time wth Him throughout your day; in the morning, on your drive to work, in between classes (if you're still in school), on your lunch break, or before you go to bed.  Start a habit of dedicating a portion of your day and spend time with God. If you have a cellphone, you can read the Bible on your phone through the Bible app.
God will meet you wherever you are, with open arms, welcoming you into His presence!

Blessings in Our Lord Jesus Christ!
