Physical and Spiritual Rest
Rest is an important part of life. There are two kinds of rest that the Bible talks about. First of all, God created us to have physical rest. God rested on the seventh day by not creating anything, and he advised us to rest as well. We are to have a Sabbath rest from our work.
Secondly, there is a spiritual rest. For example, Jesus says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:29-30). This spiritual rest is learning to trust Jesus and not relying on your own abilities or pressuring yourself to achieve. God is in control; trust in him.
I’m thankful to have a couple of weeks off around Thanksgiving this year. We’ll visit my family in Iowa and I’ll do some work around the house (which I enjoy doing and find refreshing).
After a very busy season at church, I hope you are finding rest—for your body, mind, and soul. It is good for us to step away and rest from time to time. In fact, it’s not only good, but it is godly. God commands us to rest.
God bless you, Pastor Kory
