Pastor Kory’s Update

Dear West Covina Christian Church,

In the midst of this time of uncertainty and difficulty, I have heard so many encouraging and uplifting stories from many of you.  I know of church members who have driven others to the doctor, started having family devotions, called a church friend to check-in and tell them that they are praying for them, started having “Quarantine Quiet Times” with God, and texted their friends from church before the worship service starts to encourage them to go online to worship.  While this time is hard, we will get through it together.  In fact, we will be stronger because we are loving our brothers and sisters in Christ during this time.

In terms of updates, the WCCC pastors and staff have adjusted our office hours as recommended by the health officials and political leaders.  As we work from home, we are filling our days with prayer, having virtual meetings, preparing sermons and devotions, and calling the members of our church.  We have also updated our church roster to make sure everyone has an assigned person to call on them and encourage them spiritually.

The worship service this Sunday will again be online (www.westcovina.church) at 10:30.  This week we will have worship through song (led by Renae and Colson), a testimony (Jean Hara), and a sermon on why God allows bad things to happen to good people.  This sermon on the problem of good and evil would be a great sermon to encourage your unsaved family and friends to watch because this is one of the most difficult questions for us at any time, but especially while we are experiencing the coronavirus pandemic.

While it is a disappointment that we are not going to be able to celebrate Easter in our church sanctuary, this doesn’t change the fact that we are celebrating the salvation that Jesus won for us through His death and resurrection.  To help us prepare our hearts for Good Friday and Easter, the video devotionals for the few weeks leading up to Easter will focus on the last days of Jesus.  Pastor Darren has given us the first one here:
