Pastor Kory's Update

Dear West Covina Christian Church Family,

Each of us face the difficulties of our current reality differently.  For some, the day goes by slowly with little to do and for others we feel like we are being pulled from both ends as we homeschool kids and work at the same time.  On a daily basis, we have emotional ups and downs as we recognize with gratitude all that we are blessed with and yet we have fears about the unknown future and financial challenges before us.  I am praying that God would give you strength during this time.

I have also been praying that God would open up doors for us to bless our community during this difficult time.  Our church’s Deacon for Church Gatherings, Nancy Cortez, is a teacher at Parkview Elementary School in the West Covina school district and she has made us aware of critical needs that some of the families in her school are having.  To help with these needs, we will be preparing “essential items boxes” to give to families through her school.  I’m encouraging everyone who is able to help with this project to consider either preparing a box (or boxes) that can be dropped at the church or donating money that can be used to buy the essential items supplies.

Here are the items that will be placed in each box:

  • Food items like crackers, Cup of Noodles, instant oatmeal, pudding cups, bread, Vienna sausages, peanut butter, fruit cups, Spaghetti O’s, beef jerky, and trail mix.

  • Toiletries like toilet paper, shampoo, hand soap, and dishwashing liquid soap

If you want to drop off a box at the church, the drop off time will be Saturday, May 9 from 10:00-12:00.

If you would like to make a donation, please mail at check to the church and indicate that this money for “Mercy and Justice.”  Or you can give online (www.westcovina.church/give) and select Mercy and Justice. For more information on this effort, please contact Mercy and Justice Deacon Anne Smith.

Louisa Mochizuki has provided us with a wonderful video devotional for this week:

A couple of other announcements:

  • Prayer meeting tomorrow night (Friday at 7:00).  Please join us through the church website.  What a blessing to pray with and for one another!

  • Because this Sunday is a Communion Sunday, please remember to have some bread and juice so that we can take Communion together during the worship service.

  • This Sunday’s message is entitled “What Everyone Needs to Know about Demons.”  Its sermon based on Luke 11:14-26 and my prayer is that we will have God’s help on this important topic.

  • Harvesters Gathering next Tuesday at 10:00am. The access information is available on the church website.

  • Online Church Gathering on Sunday, May 10 at 12:00.  Because this is Mother’s Day, we want to have special time of fellowship that helps you celebrate.  It will be a wonderful time for all.

Have a great rest of your week!

With love,
Pastor Kory
