Our Moms

Growing up we don’t always appreciate our parents like we should. But as we get older (and as we become parents ourselves), we wisen up and begin to appreciate them and all they did for us. For many of us, our parents, and especially our mothers, are an extension of God’s loving presence and compassion. Our mothers and mother figures care for us and give of themselves in ways only they can. In our household, when the kids fall down, they go to mom. When they need someone to talk to, they go to mom. When they need some money, they go to mom :). It is incredible the role our moms have in shaping all of our lives.

In the book of wisdom, Proverbs 1:8-9 says, “Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching. They are a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck.” To sons and daughters (which is all of us), God’s word says heed your mother’s teaching. I interpret this as taking note of what our mothers teach and do for us. Do not take them for granted. See how they extend love, compassion, selflessness, faithfulness, and wisdom. And if we do likewise, God will extend His grace and blessing to us.

I am so thankful for the mothers and mother figures in our lives. They (you) play a special role in our families, our homes, and in our church. May God bless you richly this weekend and in the days ahead.

God bless,

Pastor Darren
