Pastor Kory's Update

Hello West Covina Christian Church Family,

Schools are one of the many groups that have been affected in significant ways during this pandemic.  Principal Sylvia Fullerton at Cameron Elementary School, the school located just down the street from our church, noted how difficult it is to see the students off for the summer without teachers being able to do the many fun and meaningful activities that they normally do at the end of the year.  No matter how weird the end of the school year may feel, Principal Fullerton and the teachers at Cameron Elementary want to end year the best they can.  As Principal Fullerton and I discussed this, she mentioned a couple of ways we as a church could help them over the next couple of weeks.

First of all, volunteers are needed at the school to help direct traffic as students come in their cars and receive their personal belongings on Wednesday (May 27), Thursday (May 28), Friday (May 29), and Monday (June 1).  If you are able to help direct traffic, you would be given an orange vest and stationed at one of the entrances around the school from 9:00-1:00 (or however much time you can volunteer).  If you are able to do this for a day, part of a day, or multiple days, please let me know  (kwenell@westcovinacc.org; 626-272-7512).  This would be a huge way for us to bless this school and community.;

Secondly, we are preparing Celebration Bags for the 5th graders who will be moving on to Middle School next year.  The 5th grade class will be picking up their things on Monday, June 1st from (9:00-1:00) and I’d love to have several people there from our church to congratulate them and give them their Celebration Bag.  Anne Smith is organizing this and would love to have your help (626-827-0106).
My prayer has been that we would be able to partner with Cameron Elementary School as a way for us to be a blessing to our community.  God seems to be opening up these doors and I am so thankful to Him!

God is working in so many ways right now.  We’re blessed to have Sy share with us this week’s video devotional.  Enjoy!

We continue to monitor when we might be able to gather as a church again.  Whenever that time comes, please know that we are working hard to make sure that everything will be safe and that those who want to continue to worship at home will be given that opportunity.  These are strange times but we are seeking God’s help and we will be careful in everything that we do.

God bless you this week!

Pastor Kory
