In His Time – Waiting on the Lord
In Ecclesiastes 3:11 (NIV), it says:
“He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.”
This past week, I’ve been praying about a few very specific things, and God has been impressing one clear message on my heart in different ways: we need to wait on the Lord because His timing is perfect.
He’s been using songs, Scripture, and even our Bible study to gently, but consistently, reinforce this truth.
One of those reminders came through the old worship song, “In His Time” by Maranatha Music:
In His time, in His time
He makes all things beautiful in His timeLord, please show me every day
As You’re teaching me Your way
That You do just what You say
In Your timeAnother way God spoke to me was through our Women’s Bible Study titled, Elizabeth: How to Win the Waiting Game. The study focused on Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist. She waited her entire life for a child, and it wasn’t until her old age that God answered her prayer. Yet, He didn’t just give her a son—He gave her the one who would prepare the way for Christ.
Both Elizabeth and her husband remained faithful, continuing to serve God even in the silence of unanswered prayer. Their story is such a powerful reminder that God’s delays are not His denials. His plans were far greater than they could have imagined.
Through all of this, I felt God reminding me to hold my plans loosely—even the ones I believe are from Him. We can’t run ahead of His timing. Instead, we need to stay in step with Him, continually seeking His guidance through prayer.
Waiting can be so difficulty; honestly, maybe most of the time, if you’re anything like me. But Scripture encourages us in the waiting.
In Isaiah 40:31 (NIV), we are reminded:
“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
Waiting requires patience, faith, and trust in God. I once heard a preacher say, “Faith is patience in slow motion.” That has stayed with me. As we wait on the Lord, He is not being silent or inactive—He is strengthening us.
God’s plans are always better than our own because He sees what we cannot. He knows what lies ahead. He knows what’s coming around the bend—while we can only see what’s right in front of us.
Sometimes, the waiting is necessary because we’re not yet ready for what He has prepared. When we bring everything to Him in prayer and ask for His guidance, we are surrendering control and allowing Him to work out His perfect plan. And if we’re honest, that kind of surrender can be a challenge to our pride.
But in the waiting, God is not just preparing the outcome, He is preparing us.
I pray that God helps us all wait with patience and renewed hope in all the “waiting circumstances” in our lives. I pray that He prepares and equips us for the wonderful plans He has for us.
Blessings in Our Lord Jesus Christ,
