I AM

Dear West Covina Christian Church,

I have enjoyed going over the I AM statements in the Gospel of John.  The depths of Christ’s love for us are immense.  His character is perfect.  As we are doing in this sermon series, it is so good for our minds, hearts, and souls to ponder deeply who Christ is and our relationship to Him.

I keep a quote in my home office that I like to read regularly: “We should seek to establish ourselves in a sense of God’s Presence by continually conversing with God.  It is a shameful thing to quit this conversation to think of trifles and fooleries” (Brother Lawrance, The Practice of the Presence of God, page 8).  It is wonderful to think of who God is and be in regular communication with Him!  We have such a great God and the fact that He wants to be with us is even more marvelous.

This might be an easy thought to have when everything is going well, but what about when things are difficult, when we are grieving, or when we are spiritually struggling?  Psalm 23:4 (which we looked at this past Sunday) is helpful, because it says, “Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me.”  The Presence of God and our communication with Him is most valuable when we are going through hard times.  He draws near to us when we pray to Him and it is in His Presence that we find comfort, strength, and joy.

God bless you, Pastor Kory
