Heaven is Our Real Home

Thomas A Kempis in his classic, The Imitation of Christ, says, “If you wish to achieve stability and grow in grace, remember always that you are an exile and pilgrim on this earth.”

We tend to get stressed about things that will not matter in eternity.  I’m not saying that the small details of life don’t matter or that God is not concerned about them.  I’m simply saying that we need to keep a proper perspective on things.  We are here on this earth as sojourners and exiles who are simply passing through (1 Peter 2:11).  What really counts is eternity.  Heaven is our real home.

Considering this truth, don’t get anxious about worldly things.  Our possessions will not last forever.  And our greatest successes will not be in our careers but in how we treat people.  Jesus told us to store up for ourselves treasures in heaven.  This means that we should love people well and place our focus and priorities on living for God.

We need to be reminded regularly that God is sovereign; He is in control.  Seek to not take things into your own hands but to simply to surrender all things, all decisions, all problems, and all relationships to Him.  As the song that we sing in church says, “I trust in God, my Savior.  The one who will never fail.”

God bless you, Pastor Kory
