Fountain Sleepover 2023

Have you ever had one of those weekends that throws you off for a while afterwards? This past weekend was like that for me as we had the youth group sleepover. Now if you're familiar with sleepovers, you probably know that very little sleep actually happens. We should probably change the name to all-night hangout because that's what it really is, 20 kids spending all night playing games, eating snacks, worshipping, and hanging out. As tiring as it was though, it was great to see them having fun together. I know between home, school, and personal stuff, our kids' lives can be stressful. I think being young is not as simple as it used to be. So it's a joy to see them having fun and building friendships.

The Bible doesn't talk about the topic of sleep a whole lot. One verse that does is Proverbs 3:24. It says, "when you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet." It makes sense that when we have God's wisdom and presence in our lives our sleep would be sweet. Well my experience on Friday night was kind of the opposite. I didn't want to lie down or sleep because I was concerned about what might happen with a bunch of sleep-deprived teenagers roaming the church unsupervised looking for something to do. I'm kidding. Our youth are actually pretty responsible. Nonetheless, we parents took shifts and made sure one of us was awake at all times 😳. So I got a good hour of sleep that morning.

We were also fortunate to have some college guys stay overnight and help out with some of the games. On Saturday morning, they left at 5am for a bike ride to the beach. As expected, our youth started to get sleepy as we ate breakfast and their parents picked them up. All in all, it was a great weekend and I thank God for our youth group and all that helped out. Here are some pictures from the sleepover. Can't wait till next year!
