Discipleship

The men’s ministry is going through The Measure of a Man.  It is a book about the twenty attributes of a godly man as given to us in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1.  We are being challenged to become more mature in our faith and, as we are seeing, that affects how we live in all aspects of our lives (staring at home with our families).  While this study is about each of us individually, we set the foundation this past week by emphasizing that we can’t do this alone.  We need one another and we need God’s Spirit.

Too often we try to go it alone in the Christian faith and that may be the reason that we often don’t see as much progress in our faith as we’d like to.  Because we are made in the image of God, we are designed to be in communion with one another.  The path of discipleship is always communal.  I’ve learned this not only from Scripture but from my own personal experience.  It has always been through others, whether through challenge or support, confrontation or encouragement, that I have personally grown in my faith.

We are blessed to have this men’s ministry group and so many other groups in the church who love and support one another.  As a church and as followers of Christ, may we be like heat-seeking missiles looking for ways to be in fellowship with one another.  It is through these relationships that God works with us (as we partner together with God) to help us grow in our faith.

We had a great first men’s ministry Bible study this past Sunday but it’s not too late to join us.  If you would like to be a part of this wonderful study, please join us Sunday at 9:30-10:30 in the conference room.

God bless you, Pastor Kory
