Pastor Kory's Update
Dear West Covina Christian Church Family,
I was shocked, as you may have been as well, with the news a couple of days ago that we would be in shelter-at-home orders through July. When all of this first started, we anticipated online worship services lasting a few weeks and now we are in for at least a few months. Mayor Garcetti later clarified what was said with this: “When our county health officer Dr. Ferrer merely said that an order would stay in place for at least three more months, that doesn't mean the order stays in place exactly as it is today.” We will continue to monitor how things progress, but no matter how we may react to the news, there are reasons to be hopeful.
First of all, we can be hopeful because we know that God has a plan and purpose for all things. I can already see many positive things coming about in my life, family, and church because of what has taken place. While it is easy to be frustrated, I invite you to be encouraged. May we pray that God would give us spiritual eyes to see His blessings during this time.
Secondly, we can be hopeful because God’s Kingdom always advances the most when things are difficult. This is a time for us to reach our neighbors by showing care, praying for them, and witnessing. It is a time for the church to ask God how He wants us to adjust our ministry to be more effective for Kingdom growth. And it is a time for us to pray for West Covina and our church’s influence in the city.
I was very encouraged by how we were able to bless so many families with the essential items boxes. So far over $3500 and a lot of food has been given to help needy families. Thank you to everyone who gave food and money!
In light of this hopefulness, Adam Ramirez shares with us a wonderful story of how God reminded him of His faithfulness and power as our video devotional for this week. You will be encouraged!
The church will keep you posted on how we are to proceed moving forward. As of now, we stay the course with online worship services and ministry meetings. Our next Zoom prayer meeting will be May 29 at 7:00.
God bless you and keep you safe during this time.
All for His glory!
