Christ's Second Coming
Jesus will return! As this is Holy Week, we reflect on Jesus' final week here on earth. We remember His teaching, His suffering, His sacrifice on the cross, and all that it means for us. And on Easter Sunday, we celebrate His glorious resurrection! This past Sunday, an insert of Holy Week Devotions was included in the worship service program. The insert serves as a guide for some of the key events of Jesus' final week. To prepare your heart for Easter, I encourage you to walk the road with Jesus by spending time reading, praying, and worshipping through these devotions:
Monday - Jesus Cleanses the Temple, Matthew 21:12-17
Tuesday - Jesus Rebukes the Pharisees, Matthew 21:23-46
Wednesday - Jesus Teaches About His Second Coming, Matthew 24:26-44
Thursday - The Last Supper, Matthew 26:17-30
Friday - Jesus' Crucifixion, Matthew 27:32-56
Saturday - Responding to the Cross, Matthew 27:57-61
Sunday - The Resurrection, Matthew 28:1-10
As I write this on Wednesday, the focus is on Jesus' teaching about His second coming. Even as He moves toward His death on the cross, Jesus warns His disciples that one day He will return. He instructs them to be vigilant, knowing that He will return at a time when no one knows. He likens it to a master who returns to the household unannounced after being away. Will he find the servants being faithful and wise? Matthew 24:42-44 says, “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him."
As we look to Easter this week, let us also remember to be vigilant, wise, and faithful as we look forward to Christ's glorious return when He will gather all believers together and set all things right! In coming together to honor and worship the Lord, I invite you to join us for Good Friday service in the sanctuary at 7pm, Easter breakfast in the social hall starting at 9am, a glorious Easter Sunday service at 11, and plenty of activities for the kids.
God bless,
Pastor Darren
