Seasons of Life

Having grown up on a farm in the Midwest, Spring was always an exciting time of the year.  The snow would melt and you could finally get rid of the big, heavy coats and dig out the T-shirts and shorts.  My dad would be excited about getting into the fields to plant the crops and there was a sense of hope and anticipation as everything turned green again and people came out from their winter “hibernation.”

Here in California, we don’t have the dramatic changes in season, but there are still changes and seasons.  Similarly, in our lives, there are seasons.  Some are full of hope and excitement, while at other times we may feel discouraged and maybe even hopeless.  Winter can be cold and lonely.  Spring is full of excitement and hope.  Summer is a time of growth and happiness.  And Fall can be a season of fruition and completion—like a harvest season.

What season of life are you in right now?  As we cycle through different life seasons, we remember what Soloman said, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens” (Ecclesiastes 3:1).  God is the One who has made the seasons—both in nature and in life.  Every season has its purpose.  In nature, each season contributes in its own unique way to the growth of plants.  And in life, while some seasons are more difficult than others, each season of life has its purpose for our spiritual growth.  Knowing that, we can trust God during the difficult seasons of life.  He has a purpose.  He is growing something good in you.  As 1 Corinthians 3:9 says, “you are God’s field.”

God bless,

Pastor Kory
