Operation Christmas Child
Operation Christmas Child collects shoebox gifts—filled with fun toys, school supplies and hygiene items—and delivers them to children in need around the world to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way.
For many of these children, the gift-filled shoebox is the first gift they have ever received. Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child, the world’s largest Christmas project of its kind, has collected and delivered more than 168 million shoebox gifts to children in more than 160 countries and territories.
This year, Operation Christmas Child hopes to collect enough shoebox gifts to reach another 11 million children in countries like Peru, the Philippines, Rwanda and Ukraine. More than 10.6 million shoebox gifts were collected worldwide in 2018, with more than 8.8 million collected in the U.S.
Anyone can pack a shoebox! Individuals, families, and Growth Groups can fill empty shoeboxes with school supplies, hygiene items and fun toys, such as dolls or soccer balls. Stop by the display in the entry way to pick up an empty shoebox, and tips on what to pack.
Already packed a shoebox? Drop it off at the church before November 17. For more information on Operation Christmas Child and our church's involvement, see Missions Deacon Arleen Koshimizu.
Mental Illness Support Group
Saturday, October 26, 9:30-11am — Every last Saturday of the month, West Covina Christian Church hosts a NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) support group for families who are affected by a mental illness.
NAMI started as a small group of families gathered around a kitchen table in 1979 and has grown into the nation's largest grassroots mental health organization that raises awareness and provides support and education to those in need.
Join us in the library/room 2 at 9:30am this Saturday and the last Saturday of every month. For additional information contact Audrey Sakamoto.

For Thanksgiving, the Mercy and Justice ministry is holding a food drive until November 10 collecting various food items to fill 25 Thanksgiving boxes to families in need. It's that time of the year again – the compilation of an Advent Devotional book. Did you know that the Kellogg Arabian Horse Center on the Cal Poly Pomona campus has horses and stables, which provide sights and sounds of the no-room-at-the-inn which faced Joseph and Mary?
Why not follow prompts in the scriptures of Christ's birth while at these stables? Or you may choose to follow them in the comfort of your home. The Lord can surprise you. You may write a Christmas devotional Jesus would be proud of! And let us surprise you! You'll be entered to win a seasonal gift, perfect to give away at any family function, Friendsgiving, or white elephant game. Also, perfect for a loved one, an acquaintance, or as a peace offering to others who shall not be named.
This year, why not you?! Sign up at the Pretzel Kiosk.
All-Star Basketball Game
Basketball is back. On Sunday, November 17 after worship service, Team Awesome, led by coach Stephen Koba and captain Mark Kha, takes on Team Fantastic with coach Sy Truong and captain Kiori Komatsu.
An exhibition game will feature kids in grades 1-5 take on the moms of the church. Come on out to the basketball court. For more information see Kouichi Ikeda.
